The Ticket Collector

Finsbury Park on Tuesday.

June 28, 2006 on 11:04 pm | In FCC, GNER |

Welcome to Finsbury Park.

This was the scene for most of Tuesday when commuters were sent from Kings Cross to Finsbury Park and vice-versa to make their onward connections, due to Kings Cross being closed.
King’s Cross is one of the major transport gateways to London from the north of England and the station’s closure led many passengers to experience severe difficulties in getting to work this morning.

All trains were originally unloading and loading on the same platform which was causing major major overcrowding issues, as when the trains were coming into the platform there was physcially no room for them to get off! And as soon as the doors were opened everyone pushed to get into the train which was already overcrowded.

Someone had a good idea and they brought the trains into one platform to unload and then shunted out a bit and then came into a different platform to load up again.

No one knew what train was going where for a while, so we had to rely on the Drivers to tell us where they were stopping.

Most passengers were actually polite considering the disruption they were suffering. It was also nice to see the directors of First Capital Connect make an appearence and to their credit they did stay there all day.

Tickets dated on Monday 26th June or Tuesday 27th June 2006 will be vaild on Wednesday 28th or Thursday 29th June 2006. They will not be vaild if they have already been used, so dont even think of re-using a ticket. We can tell!

  1. All credit to FCC, both days there were lots of staff around to ask for help, pleasant and informative, and it wasnt quite the nightmare I was expecting. Finsbury Park wasnt built for that amount of passengers, but they had a good system on the go, and it flowed really smoothly!

My fault entirely coz I was thinking Monday at 10.29am how the trains have been on time on a regular basis!!

  2. Ha! FCC handled the whole thing apallingly. I was fed a stream of misinformation and lies by station staff, sent on a wild goose chase around london to other stations where I was told there were replacement trains and there weren’t. Has no-one at FCC ever heard of rail replacement buses? No they’d rather passengers were left to sleep on the streets of Kings Cross. Thank god for the metropolitan police who were able to help me.

  3. Hi CH,
I am sorry to hear of your experiences, and there is an internal review going on at the moment to see how we can improve on that Tuesday. [end managment speak]
CH we had absolutly NO information, we didnt know where the trains were going until they came into the platform and we asked the drivers for their stopping patterns.
There were buses on the Monday, but we had also been told that they would not operate on Tuesday. There was a normal service from Liverpool Street, which is what you were probably told.
Im sure FCC wouldnt want you to sleep on the platform, and I bet your claiming compensation as well!
