FCC Train Splits at 90 MPH.

August 25, 2006 on 12:45 pm | In FCC |

This is what most of the visitors to this blog are expecting to see news about considering its all in the media at the moment.

One of First Capital Connects modern 365 unit trains de-coupled early afternoon on Thursday night while it was traveling at speed, reports from fellow staff are saying that it was traveling close to speeds of 90 MPH.

This train was 8 carriages long, (2 trains of 4 carriages each) and it de-coupled (split) while it was in motion. Whenever a train looses communication with the drivers cab it automaticly applies the emergency brakes.

FCC have launched an internal investigation as to what happened and it should be reporting back soon. Im sure the HM Railways Inspectorate have also launched a more probing investigation.

As soon as either reports are published I will try and get my hands on them and put them on this blog.

  1. I was on a Midland Mainline train which did the same a couple of weeks back.

Two Meridians became un-coupled as we thundered through Cricklewood

  3. Yes I was on this train

I wondered what the hell was going on.

On a side track, do you know if anyone has a site/blog listing all the late performing trains from FCC (historically)?
I have a yearly season ticket for FCC Peterborough-London and I have now been informed that I need to claim for each late running train compensation seperatly as opposed to getting a renewal reduction when I renew my ticket each year (like what used to happen with WAGN).

    Cheers

  4. There is a site which lists delays which is http://www.traindelays.co.uk/delays.php but remember you can also claim for individal journeys which dont have to start at either Peterborough or London.

The ones that spring to mind are.
31 July Kings Cross to Hatfield 17:22
    30 mins delay. Technical Fault
29 July Peterborough to Kings Cross 10:45
30 mins OH line problem at Hitchin.
08 August Kings Cross to Stevenage 17:53
30 mins Train was only 4 carriages, front 4 had broken down, had to wait for next train, (overcrowding)
Oh and of course the train that decoupled.

I would suggest you send a seperate claim for each delayed journey as this is what their paperwork suggests you do.
