Poor Rail Conditions

December 5, 2006 on 12:41 am | In FCC |

Most of the services in the South East of the UK have today been delayed because of “poor rail conditions”. Apparently this is the new name for leaves on the line.
Alterations and residual delays are continuing to affect many other services around London and Southern England, with disruption expected to continue until the close of service tonight.

  1. A colleague of mine travels into town from Faversham with South Eastern. He’s been told that the reason behind all the delays is due to wet rails. Pathetic.

  2. There’ll be claiming there is too much carbon in the air for the trains to work next… or that sunlight kills the engines.

Oh heck, I’m giving them ideas…

  3. Wet rails may seem like a lame excuse, there would have been a time that I would have laughed along wiht you on that. However the rail is metal and so are the wheels this means that in wet weather they will slip, like your rubber tyres on your car do. This means that the driver needs to accelerate and brake more gently in order to give you a smoother and safer ride, this obviously adds time to the journey. The icy weather is now here, ice also make rails slippery.
