Dont even think about trying to travel by rail this christmas!
The East Coast Mainline is completely closed betwen Hitchin, Stevenage and Knebworth. This is due to Network Rail replacing points at Stevenage.
NXEC trains will be terminating at Peterborough with a luxury coach transfer to and from London.
HullTrains mght be running between Hull and Retford with a coach transfer to and from London.
GrandCentral (haha) will not be running any trains until the 27th December (no surprise there then).
First Captial Connect services will berunning between London and Welwyn for bus connections for the North, and also between Peterborough/Cambridge and Hitchin.
Services should get back to normal on the 27th December 2007, that is if Network Rail dont overrun which is rumored to happen according to a member of Network Rail staff we spoke to today.
Senior Conductors for Central Trains belonging to the RMT union have announced industrial action for Christmas Eve Sunday 24 December, New Years Eve Sunday 31 December and New Years Day Monday 01 January 2007.
Central Trains have announced that the strikes will go ahead, and no Central Trains services will operate on Christmas Eve, New Years Eve or New Years day. Customers should make alternative arrangements for travel. At the moment no alternative travel has been arranged.
Apparently First dont do or fund the Christmas party, grr. I bet GNER have a Christmas party and they cant even afford it. WAGN used to have Christmas parties, mind you most people couldnt drink booze at them because they were working the next day.
So what are we getting? £25 of ‘Capital Incentive Vouchers” which apparently can be spent in up to 120 shops. ooooh wowie. £25 hmm I wonder what I can buy with that?
Then they say that we are not getting any Christmas Cards from First Group. Is this so that it does not offend the people that dont celebrate Christmas, or just because they want to divert the money elsewhere? I had a Christmas card last year from the Director of National Express Rail and from the Director of WAGN.
